When labor begins, I want you to call me. I expect to go to your home, no matter what time of night, to labor with you until you feel that you would like to go to the hospital or Birth Center. I remain beside you throughout each contraction and stay with you during the immediate postpartum period.
In the case of an induced labor, I meet you at the hospital when you are being admitted and remain with you throughout your labor and during the postpartum period.
During your labor, I help you with each contraction using massage, accupressure, breathing techniques and many other comfort measures. I provide a calm presence to assist you to defuse your tension and reduce anxiety. I help take the pressure off your partner so that he can focus on you without anxiety over whether he is "doing the right thing" to help you. We work together as a team. Because I never leave your side, I will be with you at times he may need to leave to eat or run necessary errands.
Your baby's first latch is very important in establishing breastfeeding. One of my goals in your immediate postpartum period is to help you with the latch so that is is done correctly. This will prevent many problems from occuring later.
